Before you follow: I write lengthy annotations of novels I'm reading that may be intended for 18+, and some of my creative works veer in that direction as well, so PLEASE no minor interactions! 🙏🏻 I also curse a lot, and talk about some heavy subjects that occur in my own life (under cut and with content warnings in the Reason for Age Restriction field, like a civilized netizen), so if that's not your cup of tea, we might have issues connecting.
See the schedule for when sign-ups open.
In order to participate in this exchange, you will need to specify your Requests — what you would like in the work created for you — and your Offers — what you are willing to write for the user you are assigned.
Both require you to choose at least 5 and no more than 20 tags. You may only choose the tags in the tagset.
Tagsets are a way to help us match you with the person you will be writing for and the person who will be writing for you. AO3's matching mechanism is run off of matching tags, not based on free-text prompts.
You must choose the tags exactly as they appear in the tagset. AO3 may default to the correct tag, but it is best practice to copy and paste the tag directly from the tagset. Be careful to avoid extra spaces. If the tags do not match, the matching won't go through. Once AO3's matching mechanism has made suggestions based on matching tags, the mods will then double-check the matches to make sure that things align with people's requests and Do Not Wants before finalizing the matches.
This is the space where you can detail what you would like to receive. In your request section, please write out 3-5 prompts. We know that sometimes people like to make their request a list of tropes and topics they like rather than writing specific prompts, but it is helpful for participants to have a more detailed sense of what you might want so please do this in addition to your prompts, rather than in lieu of them. You are more than welcome to have one of your prompts be "anything from the chosen tags/anything that strikes your fancy" if you want to provide a hands-off prompt for your writer. You should not indicate any prompts in the offer section, but rather topics or tropes you would be interested in writing for the exchange.
In both the request and offer sections, please list out what you would not want to see in your fic/what you would not want to write. We want you to receive a prompt you’ll be happy writing and a story you’ll be happy reading. Please delineate between your preferences and/or would make you unhappy (Ex: I only want fics set in canon; I'd prefer Kathy Stabler kept off screen, etc.) versus something that would squick or trigger you (Ex: explicit sexual assault; pregnancy and/or miscarriage, etc.). Having more details helps us avoid matching you with someone who is explicitly requesting something that would make you unhappy or upset.
You may include a link to a Dear Writer letter or a personal exchange guidelines post. These may be hosted on Dreamwidth, Tumblr, a Google Doc, etc. You may provide more details in these optional links; however, please include any explicit 'Do Not Wants' directly in your AO3 request.
Please remember you can edit your Requests and Offers until we close sign-ups. If you have a fresh idea you want to add, or decide you don’t actually want to write something you had offered, you can adjust it between the time you initially sign up and when we close sign-ups for matching. The mods cannot edit your signup for you to add a letter link in or any other details you may have forgotten. It is also important to make sure you are offering tags that have been requested or we will not be able to match you. We will remind you on the last day of sign-ups.
If you have any questions about the process, you may reach out to geneticgifts@gmail.com or comment below.
