Dear Soul2Soul Writer Letter
This is my first time trying a soulmates/soulbonds exchange, but I've done Multifandom Tropefest and AUex and other tropey exchanges, so I'm excited. :D
I hope you have a blast writing for me. I always comment on my gifts and appreciate the hard work my writers do in crafting a story for me, and I'm sure I'll enjoy what you write.
I've tried to help you out by describing what I love about each fandom and/or character, and I've written a few prompts in case you find them useful, but if you come up with something of your own, please write what you think will work best! I've been wonderfully surprised by fics that I never would have thought of in a million years but which were absolutely amazing.
Fics of any length beyond the minimum are fine with me. If your story runs away with you, please be reassured I will love it longer just as much as if it were between 1,000 and 2,000 words.
The icon may make it appear that I have a particular bias towards one fandom, but I just picked one icon that matched a fandom in the list - and which I haven't used recently - so please don't worry: I really truly will love fic for anything I've requested! :)
I once made up a 101 favorite tropes list (in no particular order), so feel free to make use of those if any of them get your muse going: https://doranwen.dreamwidth.org/240453.html
Besides those tropes, here are my general likes:
- deep platonic friendship / romantic friendship / nonsexual romance
- found families / teamfic
- apocalyptic / survival fic
- hurt/comfort / characters dealing with trauma / nonsexual physical touch (including cuddling)
- characters being vulnerable / character redemption
- positive treatment of religion
- trust building / friendship
- missing scenes
- canon divergence AU (especially fix-it fic)
- any trope on this list: https://doranwen.dreamwidth.org/240453.html
DNWs:
- modern politics
- COVID-19 or pandemics
- onscreen sex or making out (a light kiss is fine, allusions are fine)
- supernatural/fantasy beings (elves outside of LOTR, vampires, werewolves, gnomes, zombies, etc.)
- AUs other than canon divergence or alt beginnings (i.e. no coffee shop AUs)
- gore / graphic violence (mild/medium violence is OK, just not as graphic as a surgery documentary)
- noncanonical death of canon characters or horror
- dark endings (happy or bittersweet endings only, please!)
- unrequested identity headcanons (gender/sexuality/etc.)
- calling an adult "baby" or "darling" ("sweetheart" works if you need a substitute)
- mpreg, A/B/O, genderswap, ageplay of any kind
- crack (nothing deliberately wacky)
- uncensored profanity
- 1st/2nd person
- unprompted relationships between canonical characters
- crossovers (normally I'd go for them, but not for this exchange, please)
Opt-ins I'm OK with, if they should arise as part of the story you are writing:
- noncon & aftermath (this overrides the onscreen sex DNW)
- underage (please keep them teens at minimum, and observe the no onscreen sex DNW)
- het pregnancy
- characters being parents
- child abuse of any kind (as long as it's not the requested characters doing the abusing)
If writing a romantic friendship, I'd prefer the line be drawn at forehead/cheek kisses and cuddles; please reserve lip kisses for sexual relationships.
If a prompt requires something that's listed as a DNW, please follow the prompt rather than the DNW. :)
Also, if choosing between writing the characters as true to themselves as you can, vs. writing a particular trope or prompt, I'd prefer you to keep the characters true to themselves.
As far as soulmates-specific things go: I don't care one way or the other about soulmarks, but prefer they not be the person's name or anything they say. I definitely do not want timers or a red string of fate. I'm OK in general with sharing scars, emotions, etc.
And now to the requests (in tagset category order):
Gold Diggers (1995)
Push (2009)
Leverage
Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman
The Pretender (TV)
Rizzoli & Isles (TV)
Rookie Blue
Smallville
Sue Thomas F.B.Eye
Women's Murder Club (TV)
Gold Diggers (1995)
Requested pairings:
Beth Easton & Jody Salerno
Beth Easton/Jody Salerno
Basic premise: Also known as Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain (1995), the film tells the story of two girls (Beth, played by Christina Ricci, and Jody, played by Anna Chlumsky) who become close friends and essentially save each other's lives. There's also a plotline involving gold (naturally, given the name), but the story is essentially a story of friendship.
Oh, fandom of my childhood. I LOVED this movie to death. So much so that I spent hours imagining what I now know to be called fanfic, whereupon I changed Beth and Jody's name to Sara and Ricki, and made their family lives nasty enough so they would run away to live in Bear Mountain for the rest of their lives and adopt runaway orphan kids and … yeah. I kid you not. I thought the whole "best friends run away and live together forever happily ever after" was the perfect ending EVER when I was 13, lol.
The thing that captivated me about the movie was most particularly the friendship between the two of them. Beth is fascinated by Jody from the get-go (she goes from confused by just seeing her fight with a kid, to mad with running into her with the groceries—and yet she still heads off with her after the Winnie the Pooh discussion), her toughness that hides an underlying vulnerability and hurt. And Jody appreciates Beth as someone who actually listens to her, who is loyal and supportive. (I think I saw myself some in Beth, and longed for something like what they had.)
I also loved the survivalist theme of Jody wanting to live in Bear Mountain. A lot of my "mindfic" from my childhood days centered around some character surviving by a combination of scavenging (which included raiding "civilization" for anything useful, sometimes by less than legal means), farming/hunting, etc. I wasn't always very realistic about it (since I didn't know much about survival as a 12-year-old), but I loved the idea of it.
Requested freeforms:
Platonic Soulmates - Soulmates With Best Friend
Soulmates - Romantic But Not Necessarily Sexual
Telepathy - Mutual Telepathic Bond Between Soulmates
I love the idea of Beth and Jody being soulmates in some way. I see them as either best friends (platonic soulmates ahoy! they're obviously best friends, so that freeform works perfectly) or as a romantic friendship, which is why I've requested the "romantic but not necessarily sexual" freeform. I'd love exploration of either situation, depending on which freeform you go for. I also love the idea of them being able to communicate telepathically. If you go for that freeform, how did it develop? When did they first realize it? Would prefer not to see a regular femslash pairing here - if you go for the / ship, please use the "romantic but not necessarily sexual" freeform! (Telepathic one is an optional combo with either pair.)
Push (2009)
Basic premise: In a world where some people have hidden gifts (such as Movers aka telekinetics, Watchers aka clairvoyance, and Pushers, who make you do what they tell you to), a shadowy government organization called Division hunts them to experiment on them in an effort to create better soldiers. 13-year-old Cassie Holmes (played by Dakota Fanning) and young adult Nick Gant (played by Chris Evans) team up to find a mysterious case that Division will do anything to get their hands on.
Requested pairing:
Nick Gant/Cassie Holmes
The first time I watched this film, I wasn't sure what to think; I hadn't really expected what I saw. But I found it interesting, and there were details I hadn't quite gotten . . . so I had to see it again. And then I skimmed through it again, because it had hooked me. The powers were interesting, the backstory interesting… but the connection between Nick and Cassie was what got me.
I came a bit late to this whole fandom, and had to grin at all the threads and LJ posts and comments on how perverted people felt to ship the two of them, but seriously, what else did the director/writers expect? From having their relationship be focused on the most *after* the big Nick/Kira scene (for all the music overlays and whatnot, Cassie/Nick came afterwards, and that's usually when the most important relationship happens) to the amount of jealousy from Cassie, from the looks to her inviting Nick to come with her to the chicken place, to the cross-cutting of her buying alcohol during the Nick/Kira scene… it's just all too obvious. Plus the last scene we see of the two is their arms around each other, lol. TOTALLY Nick/Cassie.
Now, I know the age difference is a bit ridiculous—NOW. Wait a few years and it won't be so much. My headcanon says that Cassie is far older than her years—she's probably seen murders, assaults of all sorts (maybe to her if she doesn't do something to avoid it—which she does, of course, her powers are good for something), and she might even have already seen herself with Nick in a romantic relationship, maybe will see that before it happens. In some senses I see her just as mature as Nick is, on an equal footing in a way. She needs at least a couple years to mature some (particularly physically), but I have absolutely no trouble seeing them together as early as when she's 15 (provided she can convince Nick—I have a feeling he'd freak out, lol). Whatever your age of consent is for her, I want to see the connection between the two of them, and that can be shown with or without them being "together".
Requested freeforms:
Finding Your Soulmate Counts as Being Legally Married No Matter the Situation
Soulmates always know where the other is
Soulbond allows all parties to feel what the others are feeling
I'd love to see issues arising from Nick finding Cassie as his soulmate - with the age gap they have - especially if they're considered legally married! Does he fight the realization? Do they come to an agreement (of how long they'll wait before starting the physical part of their relationship)? Of course, they don't necessarily follow society's rules as they keep ahead of Division, but what if everyone can tell they're soulmates anyway?
As far as knowing where the other one is - that strikes me as something Division would exploit if they could. Do Cassie and Nick talk about this? Do they hear of it being used against others? Do they use it to save each other?
And I love the idea that they can feel what each other is feeling - particularly as Nick would feel how Cassie truly feels about him. :D
Leverage
Basic premise: Nate Ford is a divorced ex-insurance investigator who is still grieving his son's death. When a man hires him to monitor several thieves in retrieving stolen company property, and then double-crosses them, he masterminds the others while they make the guy pay - and ends up turning them into a modern-day Robin Hood crew. His crew members are Sophie Devereaux, a grifter, Eliot Spencer (played by Christian Kane), a retrieval specialist, Parker (played by Beth Riesgraf), a thief, and Alec Hardison, a hacker.
I don't know who suggested that I watch this show, but I want to thank them, because I adore it. My favorite seasons are (in order from most to least liked) 1, 3, 2, 4, 5. I love the early dynamic the best, and would have ranked S2 higher in the list except I didn't like the episodes without Sophie quite as much (even though I thought it fit with the show's storyline quite well and I liked Tara OK by the end of the season). I really love the dynamic when all five characters are present, though I also love just Eliot and Parker (and Nate/Sophie can be very interesting). Please do not include Hardison without also including Nate/Sophie.
Requested pairing:
Parker/Eliot Spencer (Leverage)
I went into this show not knowing anything about the ships (and made sure not to spoil myself), but by the end of S1 I was already shipping these two, and my feelings about that never changed throughout the show. As
akblake said here, Parker is "a mix of little kid, wild animal, and deadly competent adult", and points out that Eliot is "a sap for at least two of the three (and possibly attracted by the third, given Dayan)", which pretty much sums it all up for me. He softens for the little kid/wild animal but it's the deadly competent adult that is what I am positive he's attracted to, and the combo of all three is why I can see them working very well. I've liked all three of the younger characters as platonic but it's the Parker/Eliot that I really want in this exchange. :D
I also ship Nate/Sophie most of the time (though I've liked some fics with Sophie paired with other people in various ways). Would prefer no mentions of Hardison/Parker or OT3 in my gift.
Requested freeforms:
Accidental Soulbond
Character A is the only one who realized they're soulmates with Character B
Soulbonded for Practical/Impersonal Reasons; Emotional Connection an Accident
Soulbound results in psychic link
Soulmates - Romantic But Not Necessarily Sexual (One is Asexual)
Soulmates always know where the other is
Telepathy - Mutual Telepathic Bond Between Soulmates
I'd love to see a fic where Parker and Eliot accidentally soulbond and have to deal with the results (maybe that's what helps them realize they're meant for each other?). I can see Eliot being the one to realize Parker is his soulmate - and no one else picking up on that. I can see them soulbonding because the resulting mental link or ability to sense presence or whatever will help them on jobs - and then developing an emotional bond on top of that. I really love the idea of them having a psychic link or telepathic bond. :D And I also love the idea of them always knowing where the other is - how would that affect the whole scattering they do before S2? And how would that affect things like The Inside Job? I'd love to see a version of that episode with that!
I can see Parker as either ace or not. If you also see her as ace, what if she and Eliot were romantic soulmates but not necessarily sexual because she is ace? How would that play out?
Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman
Basic premise: Clark Kent (played by Dean Cain) moves to Metropolis to work at the Daily Planet, where he meets his soulmate Lois Lane (played by Teri Hatcher). The resulting show is an excellent mix of drama and romance.
Requested pairing:
Clark Kent/Lois Lane
Lois & Clark is, obviously, about those two characters, and this is one canon where soulmates are canonical. So rather than focus on "what would this couple be like with soulmates", since they already have that, I'm requesting a few tropes that play with that a bit more in ways the show did not. I adore the fact that they are meant for each other and have loved reading every variation on that. The two ships I requested are really the same ship but someone nominated them without the disambig as well so I requested both just to be sure I'd have a chance at matching with someone offering them.
Requested freeforms:
Soulmates - Dreaming of Your Soulmate Years Before You Actually Meet In-Person
Soulmates always know where the other is
Telepathy - Mutual Telepathic Bond Between Soulmates
I love the idea of Clark and Lois both dreaming about each other. How might that have changed their first meetings if they recognized each other as soulmates? And while Clark can usually find Lois if she calls his name, what if she can't? I love the idea of him being able to just hone in on where she is instinctively. And I've seen telepathy used but mostly it's just a "Kryptonian thing". What if Clark and Lois *were* telepathic? How might that have changed things, especially if it developed early on in their acquaintance with each other?
You're welcome to cross this with Smallville and have both sets of soulmates meet (Clark and Lois in L&C, Clark and Chloe in Smallville) - I've seen one fic that did that and explained the discrepancy in the names (with a hint towards the soulmates thing) but I'd love to see more!
The Pretender (TV)
Basic premise: The best description is probably the slide that ran on the pilot episode: "There are extraordinary individuals among us known as Pretenders. Geniuses with the ability to insinuate themselves into any walk of life, to literally become anyone. In 1963, a corporation called the Centre isolated one such Pretender, a young boy named Jarod. Locked in a controlled environment they exploited his genius for their "unofficial" research. Then, one day, their Pretender ran away..." While Jarod grew up in that environment he met a girl known as Miss Parker. They bonded as children, but were separated as teens. Now that Jarod is on the outside, Miss Parker (now tough as nails, the "Ice Queen" of the Centre) has been called back to bring him in. In between righting wrongs through Pretending to be different people in various careers, Jarod hunts for the missing pieces of his life—and Miss Parker's.
Oh, how I love this show. It's very complex, what with all the twisted revelations about this aspect of one or the other's family, Centre history, etc., but the characters are so fascinating. Both Jarod and Miss Parker (unarguably the main characters) are very very scarred, but the intriguing thing is how they react so differently to their scars. Jarod clings to innocence in as many realms as he can (while suspecting just about anything from the Centre), while Miss Parker is as cynical as she can be. One of the best things about the show is seeing her warm up to Jarod slowly over the four seasons, trying to learn to trust him. Trust is a key element, something Jarod keeps asking of her, while all along she keeps putting her trust in the wrong people.
As for other characters: I really love Sydney, and how he's played that father-figure role in Jarod's life. Broots and his daughter are also sweet. Mr. Raines and Lyle are creepy, of course, and Mr. Parker is, in some ways, worse than Mr. Raines, because of how he would pretend to love Miss Parker and then twist that love to use her in some way or further his own agenda. I headcanon Miss Parker's first name as Melissa but it's unlikely you'll need to use her name in a fic anyway, since they managed to avoid it for four seasons and two TV movies, lol…
Requested pairing:
Jarod (the Pretender)/Miss Parker (the Pretender)
They're not canonical soulmates, but they might as well be, I think. Jarod and Miss Parker's lives were destined to be entwined from the day they met each other as children in the Centre, and I can't imagine her truly happy with anyone else. No one will ever understand her as well as Jarod does, and how could anyone else truly understand his life but Miss Parker? They're perfect for each other, and the time over the course of the show has gradually led them to an understanding of each other that another person would find difficult to wrap their mind around.
Requested freeforms:
Soulmates always know where the other is
Telepathy - Mutual Telepathic Bond Between Soulmates
Soulbond allows all parties to feel what the others are feeling
I love the idea that Miss Parker always knows where Jarod actually is, down deep - it adds an interesting layer to her "search for Jarod". Also, I think the idea of them having a telepathic bond would be awesome to read! How would that affect events in canon - or maybe bring about the end of the Centre as we know it? Even feelings only with a soulbond, that would be very interesting. :D
Rizzoli & Isles (TV)
Basic premise: Jane Rizzoli (played by Angie Harmon) is a homicide detective who works with best friend Dr. Maura Isles (played by Sasha Alexander), a medical examiner, to solve crimes.
I loved this show, though I will admit the earlier seasons were better than later ones. I prefer to pretend the last season never happened - it was weird and not well-thought-out, in my opinion, and I watched it once and don't intend to rewatch. The first season, on the other hand, was *excellent*, and I could watch some of those eps so many times.
One big area the show was noticeably lacking in was actually dealing with all the trauma the characters suffered. The most they would show (even after escaping from being kidnapped) was a little joking around on the couch, and the next episode they were back to normal. It was absolutely ridiculous! If an actual human being had went through all of what they went through, there would be some major PTSD going on there! I really wish they'd dealt with that more. Feel free to throw appropriate amounts of that into your fic if it works for you.
Requested pairings:
Maura Isles & Jane Rizzoli
Maura Isles/Jane Rizzoli
I really love Jane's character, and I love the bond these two have. Both of them learn so much from each other over the course of the show, and support each other through so many things. While I can see why most fans ship Jane and Maura as a couple, I headcanon Jane as asexual (she just hasn't figured it out yet), though the bond between them does verge on a romantic friendship and I love seeing fics that take it there (hence requesting the / pairing). They're fairly comfortable with casual physical contact, and I love seeing fics where that's part of supporting each other.
Requested freeforms:
Accidental Soulbond Proves Useful In Dangerous Situation
Platonic Soulmates - Queerplatonic Life Partners
Platonic Soulmates - Soulmates With Best Friend
Platonic Soulmates/Soulbond in a World where soulmates are always romantic/sexual
Soulmates - Romantic But Not Necessarily Sexual (One is Asexual)
Soulmates - Scars appear on each other's skin
Some of these are clearly for the / version, some for the & version. I'm not sure exactly what the accidental soulbond would look like, but I could see that coming in handy with Maura in danger and Jane using that to help save her somehow. Obviously, the & tag would work great with the platonic soulmates tags - any of those options would be interesting. I see Jane and Maura as meant for each other in a way, but I don't think that is necessarily even romantic, much less sexual, so I like both the platonic options - and the romantic but not sexual options (with Jane being the asexual one - I figure Maura's probably bi). I also like the scars variation here because of Jane's canonical background with Hoyt. It would be interesting to see how that affected them finding each other. (But would prefer that go with either the platonic & or the romantic but not sexual /.)
Rookie Blue
Basic premise: Andy McNally (played by Missy Peregrym), Gail Peck (played by Charlotte Sullivan), and Dov Epstein (played by Gregory Smith) are rookie cops in Toronto. Sam Swarek (played by Ben Bass) is one of the senior officers who becomes Andy's TO and partner - in more ways than one. Also called the cop version of Grey's Anatomy - a procedural with heart.
This show is my biggest "why didn't you watch this sooner????" because the fandom is pretty much dead now, and I missed out on so much… I watched Stick It ages ago and loved Missy Peregrym in that, but for some inexplicable reason waited until years after it was over to watch Rookie Blue. I was hooked from the first couple episodes and watched all 74 in two weeks. :D All the drama, the emotion, the romance, the angst… (And SO MUCH AU POTENTIAL. So so much.)
Obviously, I love Sam and Andy to pieces—I am totally team McSwarek. I ship Gail with Dov or Luke (not into Gail/Chris, Gail/Nick, or Gail/Holly), but there's some good Gail/Luke fic out there so I'm requesting Gail/Dov. You can do what you want with Chris and Traci. I love Noelle and Oliver but am not a fan of Celery. I'm ambivalent about Chloe (I like her but not the whole Wes thing) and don't really care for Juliet or Marlo (who would've been much better if they hadn't used the bipolar thing in the way they did). My favorite seasons with Rookie Blue are S1 and S2, up until where Sam goes undercover.
Requested pairings:
Andy McNally/Sam Swarek
Dov Epstein/Gail Peck
Sam and Andy are just meant to be, and I love the idea of them actually being soulmates or soulbonded. I think it would change quite a few of the events of the show if they were! I also love Dov and Gail together, and think having them be soulmates would really change a lot about how things went in the early seasons - and make them much more interesting!
Requested freeforms:
Accidental Soulbond
Character A is the only one who realized they're soulmates with Character B
Power differential between accidentally soulbonded A and B causes problems
Secret Soulbond
Soulbond allows all parties to feel what the others are feeling
Soulbonding - Accidentally During a One-Night-Stand (with Severe Bonding Side-Effects)
Soulmates Acknowledge They Belong With Each Other During the Apocalypse
Soulmates - Distance is Painful
Soulmates always know where the other is
Work soulbond accidentally turns into a real soulbond
An accidental soulbond between either pair would be very interesting (particularly the one-night-stand variation - either ship would be interesting there). :D I think the guys would be the interesting ones to be the ones who realize they're soulmates with the girls - and have the girls be oblivious to it. I can't see how there's a real power differential between Dov and Gail, but with Andy and Sam, that's definitely a problem as Sam is her TO! A secret soulbond would be very interesting with either pair. I definitely would love seeing them having to deal with knowing what the other is feeling. And I could totally see the apocalypse (just not a pandemic, please) being the way to get them to admit they belong together. As far as distance being painful - how does that work with cops? Do they get partnered together as a result? Do they have to live with the pain for the day and then have to be together in the evenings to help things feel better? I also love the idea of them knowing where the other is - what if that's how they figure out they're soulmates? I'm not sure how "work soulbond" would differ from "real soulbond" but I'd be interested in reading about that. :)
Smallville
Basic premise: Clark Kent (played by Tom Welling) is an alien from Krypton who also happens to be a high school student in Smallville, Kansas, and his best girl friend is high school paper reporter Chloe Sullivan (played by Allison Mack).
Requested pairing:
Clark Kent/Chloe Sullivan
These are an OTP for me, I think. I've only seen up to partway into the 4th season and was so disgusted with the way the show was going (and I could not stand Erica Durance's character for anything!) that I quit watching and had to quit really being involved in the fandom. As a result, I would rather not see anything from past S3. (I have read very little about the rest of the show that I actually liked.) But I think it's early on that the soulmates would be the most interesting, anyway.
Requested freeforms:
Accidental Soulbond
Soulmates always know where the other is
Soulmates Share Physical Stimuli (Pain and Pleasure)
Telepathy - Mutual Telepathic Bond Between Soulmates
I love the idea of an accidental soulbond between these two - and all the fallout that would result. I also think it would be interesting for them to know where the other is - Clark wouldn't be able to hide his secret from Chloe for long! (When you can run 3-second miles…) Also a dead giveaway would be if Chloe could feel what Clark feels re: the green K (and oh boy, the red K! LOL). And I love the idea of them being telepathic with each other. :D
You're welcome to cross this with Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and have both sets of soulmates meet (Clark and Lois in L&C, Clark and Chloe in Smallville) - I've seen one fic that did that and explained the discrepancy in the names (with a hint towards the soulmates thing) but I'd love to see more!
Sue Thomas F.B.Eye
Basic premise: A Deaf woman, Sue Thomas who can read lips very well is hired by the FBI and joins a surveillance unit consisting of five FBI agents (Jack, Bobby, Myles, Tara, and Dominick aka "D") and a "rotor" (Lucy, who calls herself that because she keeps the office running for all the agents). There's a lot of drama, humor, and bunch of "will they or won't they?" between her and her good-looking training agent (Jack Hudson). Agent Myles Leland III (played by Ted Atherton) is disdainful of Sue at first but grows to respect her. Agent Tara Williams (played by Tara Samuel) is the lone female agent on the team and the tech whiz.
If you do match with me on this one, or want to write it, please do what you can to learn about any relevant details if you include Sue in some way; it's important to me that her world be respected and accurately represented when possible. :) (Though the show was inaccurate at times for convenience's sake, like having Sue be able to read people's lips instantly all the time, pretty much. In real life it's a painstaking process and you only catch a percentage of what is said.)
As for the whole dating the colleague rule, there is NO such rule in the FBI; they made it up for the show. Do what you like with that, lol.
Requested pairing:
Myles Leland III/Tara Williams (Sue Thomas F.B.Eye)
I found it very interesting that while we see both Jack and Bobby trying to "protect" the women, including Tara (who's a Special Agent! not just support staff like Sue and Lucy), Myles does not make this mistake, as far as I can remember. He seems to have a lot more respect for Tara's abilities, and seeing him in Bad Hair Day in the restaurant with her made me very curious about the conversation that led up to that. Somehow I suspect he may have gone to bat for her. At the very least, he treats her as an equal more than any of the others, and that speaks of something very interesting that I'd like to see more of. I love the idea of them being soulmates somehow. :D
My views on other characters:
Lucy is sweet but a little too matchmaker at times (and a bit nosy), Jack is definitely infatuated with Sue but needs to be a bit more mature and make more of an effort to enter into her world if he's serious about being with her, Bobby is (in my opinion) a bit immature yet and has some real growing up to do (I don't see him as being really ready for a mature relationship in some ways), and Sue is sweet and likes Jack but wants him to make the first move—and show her that he really loves her by becoming more of a part of her world. And then there's D, who's solid and has his family and kids. Please don't include Bobby/Tara or Myles/Lucy (other than flashbacks to them as being a couple at the beginning of the show).
Requested freeforms:
Character A is the only one who realized they're soulmates with Character B
Secret Soulbond
Telepathy - Mutual Telepathic Bond Between Soulmates
Work soulbond accidentally turns into a real soulbond
For one of them being the only one to realize, either character would be interesting in either role. I also love the idea of them keeping their soulbond a secret from the others (especially given how much that team teases each other, particularly Myles). I've got a soft spot for soulmates and telepathy, and I have no idea what a work soulbound vs. a real soulbond would look like but I'd love to see it.
Women's Murder Club (TV)
Basic premise: A small group of friends (three to start, with a fourth working her way in during the first couple episodes) who all work in related fields share information to help each other solve cases. Lindsay Boxer (played by Angie Harmon) is a homicide inspector (aka detective) who works in San Francisco's police department. She's friends with Jill Bernhardt (played by Laura Harris), a deputy district attorney and Claire Washburn (played by Paula Newsome), the medical examiner. As the show unfolds, she begins to respect (and maybe even like?) Cindy Thomas (played by Aubrey Dollar), a young reporter who gets assigned to the crime beat. The show is an excellent mix of drama, comedy, and romance, and has a lot of similarities to Rizzoli & Isles.
I got into Women's Murder Club because I loved watching Angie Harmon in Rizzoli & Isles, and this sounded like a similar role for her. After I saw the video titled "The Best of Women's Murder Club" and read this comment, I was positive I had to see the whole show: "Now it all makes sense. Jane Rizzoli is an extension of Lindsay Boxer. The only difference, they keep butching up Angie Harmon." It is so true. Lindsay is like a milder version of Jane in some ways. But in the ways she's different, I fell in love with her character all over again. Lindsay can actually cry, she hates being vulnerable but she can actually do it and be real with her friends. And that just won me over. (Seriously, make Angie Harmon be all vulnerable and cry in a scene and you have me. Completely.) I love her dedication to her work, the toughness she can bring to the job, but I also love that she can still be human, still be vulnerable, that she doesn't feel like she has to be tough to be respected (Jane Rizzoli, in many ways, hardens herself in order to be respected in her job). I love that she cares about her friends, and that she's torn about her ex but still knows what the right thing is and even respects his fiancée.
Cindy stole my heart because of several reasons. One, she's cute and adorable (I don't usually find redheads fascinating but there's something about Cindy…). Two, she has a delightful personality, bubbly, a little lacking in some common sense now and then, which the others are happy to lecture her about. And three, she has a bravery and courage that is pretty amazing. When she volunteers for the dangerous decoy task in "Father's Day"… that took guts. Real guts. I think Lindsay had to respect her for that. And then with what happens to her in "And The Truth Will (Sometimes) Set You Free", well… I want to hear more. (I also have to admit, I might not be a sports fan, but I loved Cindy in "Play Through the Pain", especially her interaction with Claire's son.)
Requested pairings:
Lindsay Boxer & Cindy Thomas
Lindsay Boxer & Cindy Thomas & Jill Bernhardt & Claire Washburn
Lindsay Boxer/Cindy Thomas
I tend to see Lindsay and Cindy somewhere along the line between platonic friends and a regular romantic/sexual relationship. Whether that be queerplatonic life partners or romantic friendship, I leave it to you. The freeforms I've chosen along with the tags lend themselves to a range there.
Requested freeforms:
Platonic Soulmates
Platonic Soulmates - Platonic Soulmate(s) Just As Important As Romantic Soulmates(s)
Platonic Soulmates - Queerplatonic Life Partners
Platonic Soulmates - Soulmates With Found Family
Soulmates - Romantic But Not Necessarily Sexual
I can see either just Lindsay and Cindy or all four of them as platonic soulmates (and how does that work, exactly?). They're a bit of a found family, and I'd love to see that importance recognized. I'd also love to see a soulmate situation between Lindsay and Cindy that *isn't* sexual - but that is romantic - and how they work that out.
I didn't request the following freeforms, but feel free to add any of them to a fic involving a combination of the options above, if they work for you (they would be interesting with Lindsay and Cindy in some way):
Accidental Soulbond
Character doesn't believe in soulmates/soulbonding; ends up with soulmark
Soulmates always know where the other is
Telepathy - Mutual Telepathic Bond Between Soulmates
Thank you for writing for me - I can't wait to see what you come up with!
As
I also ship Nate/Sophie most of the time (though I've liked some fics with Sophie paired with other people in various ways).
