doranwen: Clark and Chloe from Smallville, hinting that Chloe should become Lois (Between How It Is)
This is my first time trying a soulmates/soulbonds exchange, but I've done Multifandom Tropefest and AUex and other tropey exchanges, so I'm excited. :D

I hope you have a blast writing for me. I always comment on my gifts and appreciate the hard work my writers do in crafting a story for me, and I'm sure I'll enjoy what you write.

I've tried to help you out by describing what I love about each fandom and/or character, and I've written a few prompts in case you find them useful, but if you come up with something of your own, please write what you think will work best! I've been wonderfully surprised by fics that I never would have thought of in a million years but which were absolutely amazing.

Fics of any length beyond the minimum are fine with me. If your story runs away with you, please be reassured I will love it longer just as much as if it were between 1,000 and 2,000 words.

The icon may make it appear that I have a particular bias towards one fandom, but I just picked one icon that matched a fandom in the list - and which I haven't used recently - so please don't worry: I really truly will love fic for anything I've requested! :)

I once made up a 101 favorite tropes list (in no particular order), so feel free to make use of those if any of them get your muse going: https://doranwen.dreamwidth.org/240453.html

Yes please! )

DNWs )

Opt-ins I'm OK with )

If writing a romantic friendship, I'd prefer the line be drawn at forehead/cheek kisses and cuddles; please reserve lip kisses for sexual relationships.

If a prompt requires something that's listed as a DNW, please follow the prompt rather than the DNW. :)

Also, if choosing between writing the characters as true to themselves as you can, vs. writing a particular trope or prompt, I'd prefer you to keep the characters true to themselves.

As far as soulmates-specific things go: I don't care one way or the other about soulmarks, but prefer they not be the person's name or anything they say. I definitely do not want timers or a red string of fate. I'm OK in general with sharing scars, emotions, etc.

The sad part of archiving is running into groups which are effectively closed - the owner/moderator is MIA for some reason (or just not seeing the emails of me requesting membership), so there's no way to be approved as a member. Yet there are some that I really want to be a member of for their own sake, because I want to read the posts. Below are my top five:

#1 - PretenderHeadquarters: link
I love The Pretender a ton, and Jarod/Miss Parker are my OTPest of OTPs. If I had known of The Pretender back when this group was really active, I would have totally joined in a heartbeat. (I commented on their LJ to no avail; I'd have posted on the Facebook account too if I had a FB account - if anyone wants to do that for me, please! That would be very helpful.)
Approved and backing this one up now! :D

#2 - SueThomas_FBeye: link
SFTBE is one of my favorite shows, and it's already had whole forums stuffed full of fic disappear with no backups. I'd hate to see these vanish too!

#3 - deaddolphinandfloggedhorse: link
This is a truly MASSIVE archive of posts and Logan/Marie fic for X-Men movies - a ship I love very much. I would love to read the fic on here!

#4 - lordoftheringstrilogy: link
This one looks to have been reasonably active with probably some interesting fic and discussion, and I love Lord of the Rings to pieces; it's the first fandom I ever saw fic for, and the books have a special place in my heart.

#5 - FidesAchates: link
This one's a gen fic group! I don't know whether any of the fandoms posted about are mine, but I'd love to have a chance to find out.

Should you know anyone who is a member of any of them, please let them know how to back things up and let them know I would love to be able to read, even if the admin of the group isn't around to grant me access! (Even if it's just "here's the html export of the entire set of messages".)

The ones that didn't make my top 5 list )
doranwen: female nerds, rare and precious (Default)
Hurt/comfort is one of my favorite things, so when I heard of this exchange, I couldn't resist trying it out. :D Below I've done a lot of describing the awesomeness about each pairing or group, and gave a few prompts in case you find them useful. I hope you have a lot of fun writing for me. :)

What I love about relationships is all the emotional depth: vulnerability, loyalty, knowing someone so well you know what they feel/think/need, even just having someone there as an emotional "rock". The whole "not being alone" feeling is such a powerful theme.

I once made up a 101 favorite tropes list (in no particular order), so feel free to make use of those if any of them get your muse going: https://doranwen.dreamwidth.org/240453.html

Besides those tropes, here are my general likes:
deep platonic friendship, romantic friendship, asexual romance, found families, apocalyptic fic, hurt/comfort (obviously!), nonsexual physical touch (including cuddling), self-sacrifice, characters being vulnerable, character redemption, survival fic, positive treatment of religion, characters dealing with trauma, trust building, missing scenes, canon divergence AU (especially fix-it fic)

DNWs: supernatural/fantasy beings (elves, vampires, werewolves, gnomes, zombies, etc.), AUs other than canon divergence or alt beginnings, deathfic or horror, calling an adult "baby" or "darling", mpreg, crackfic, gore (mild violence is OK, just not as graphic as a surgery documentary), uncensored profanity, first/second person fic

I have requested "bullet removal" and/or "Cleaning/treating wounds" on some fandoms; the description you'd need to do for those will not squick me, so don't worry about it running afoul of my DNW for gore. It has to be very graphic to bother me.

DNW/Caution note: I'm not averse to mentions of sex, but I'd prefer the fic not focus on it or indulge in the physical feelings, because it can pull me out of the story so quickly. Emotional feelings/bonds are what I focus on in any ship. If a prompt requires a mention or implies sex in some way, feel free to include it as necessary as long as the focus of the fic is elsewhere. For instance, I've requested several tags that include rape; with these, as long as you aren't glorying in the nonconsensual aspect of things and focus on the emotional recovery or comfort afterwards, it's fine for me.

Don't worry if someone's written a similar idea before. My first real fandom was one where people used to write a dozen versions of the same TV ep, and I loved reading them all. There are never too many versions of the same story, in my opinion.

Some of the fandoms below have more freeforms than others; this has nothing to do with how much or how little I love the pairings/groups, but more with how versatile the pairing was for different tropes and situations. I'm sure I'll love reading whatever you write for any of these fandoms! :)

Below are optional prompts - or just plain squeeing and unhelpful "I'd love this!" - in the order that I found the tags in the tagset:

Alphas (TV) )

FBI (TV 2018) )

Rookie Blue )

Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye )

Women's Murder Club (TV) )

Wayback Exchange reminds me a lot of My Old Fandom, an exchange I had a lot of fun with some years ago, so I couldn't resist trying it out this year. I'm excited you're writing a story for me, and I promise I will comment with much appreciation! I did a lot of describing the awesomeness about each fandom and/or character/ship, and gave a few prompts in case you find them useful. I hope you have a lot of fun writing for me. :)

Prompts are, of course, completely optional - use them or ignore them as suits you best. I also once made up a 101 favorite tropes list (in no particular order), so feel free to make use of those if any of them get your muse going: https://doranwen.dreamwidth.org/240453.html

DNWs: supernatural/fantasy beings (elves outside of LOTR, vampires, werewolves, gnomes, zombies, etc.), AUs other than canon divergence or alt beginnings, noncanonical deathfic or horror, calling an adult "baby" or "darling", mpreg, crackfic, gore (mild violence is OK, just not as graphic as a surgery documentary), uncensored profanity, first/second person fic

DNW/Caution note: I'm not averse to mentions of sex, but I'd prefer the fic not focus on it or indulge in the physical feelings. Emotional feelings/bonds are what I focus on in any ship. This might be useful for anyone who just wants a good fic in a certain category, no matter the fandom. Everything is cut so if you don't want to see a particular category, just be sure to view this from the page for this date, and expand only the categories you want. I'll add more fics to this as I find them or think of them. This list is by no means all-inclusive; absence of a fic on it only means that fic has not come to my mind yet as an outstanding example of a particular category, though it may be well-written.

Please let me know if you run across any dead links to stories (that aren't specified - at least one of the stories in this post was deleted after I rec'd it, and I've left the rec up with a note to that effect).

For other fic lists, check out my master recs post.

I decided I ought to put together a post somewhere of all my favorite Sue Thomas fics--at least, the ones that can be linked to readily. (A lot of the ones I'm discovering now are only available on various forums that require registration. I'm converting those to epub so I can take 'em with me on my e-book reader, but can't post 'em here for all to see.)

doranwen: reading one book is like eating one potato chip (Reading One Book)
When it comes to books/TV shows/movies, there is a big difference between enjoying/being fond of them and being a fan. I always know when it crosses that line for me--I start looking for fanfiction to read. *g*

The annoying thing is when it happens before I'm *done* watching/reading! Case in point is my latest obsession . . . Sue Thomas F.B.Eye. I *love* this show! (Of course, I always fall in love with shows that have long been canceled--the only exception was Smallville early on, and I actually left that fandom due to the direction the show was going.) It's got all kinds of drama (bomb threats, tense take-down scenes, dodging bullets, etc.--who knew being an FBI agent was so interesting?), humor (the lines they say are some of the best I've ever heard on ANY show, not to mention the characters play off each other very well), even tons of UST (which I'm finding to be irresistibly enticing, even more so than obvious romance--that's probably why I love the interplay between Jarod and Miss Parker so much--it might get me writing a fic someday if I feel I can *get* the characters enough--getting down the dialogue will be the toughest part for sure!).

So of course, I've already gone through ff.n for good fics--the tough part is picking fics that won't spoil me! I'm only partway through the 2nd season, roughly halfway through the show, and there's a lot to be spoiled on yet. (At least a lot of summaries warn that it's based on such-and-such an episode, and I know by the title whether I've seen it or not.) There are a couple more sites with Sue Thomas fanfic--but both of them require registration. I suppose I'll get around to those at some point, maybe when I finish watching . . .

Anyone else like this show? Because seriously . . . this is too good not to share.

My favorite lines of the moment are the following:

Myles: What happened?
Tara: You missed it. Jack and Sue got married.
Myles: I went out for a tuna sandwich, how long was I gone?

P.S. And to anyone out there who's wondering where I've been--well, I've been working, and in my spare time watching my way through Sue Thomas, obviously. LJ is next on my list to get to . . .
