I really miss my old Internet connection
Jan. 21st, 2021 03:24 pmThe one I'm currently on (thanks to the move) is like a bad cross between dial-up and a glitchy hotspot. Slow when it connects, and half the time new connections won't establish.
Loading ANY website usually means refreshing several times till the connection "takes" and then how well it loads depends on how complicated it is to load. Google Drive is difficult to load (I haven't tried Google Docs at all, I suspect it would not work well), and most financial-related websites are impossible (particularly if they temporarily block you after too many attempts to connect).
Discord *mostly* works (once in a while it spins its gears trying to reconnect, it can take half a minute to upload an image, and sometimes it takes a while to load all the recent messages in a channel or send a message).
IRC and IM (I use Pidgin with Gmail, you'd have to do Google Hangouts if you use Google's native apps) actually work the best.
Sending email is glitchy (sometimes it'll send right away but more often it just can't connect to the outgoing mail server and I have to retry 2-3 times to get it to go) but receiving works, if not always instantaneous.
So if anyone's wondering why I'm not doing as much online as I usually would… now you know. I want to write more on some of my fics but the thought trying to do anything with the gdocs that they're in just makes me cringe at the amount of time it would take to try to get them to load, so I'm just not going there.
