doranwen: reading one book is like eating one potato chip (Reading One Book)
[personal profile] doranwen
alianora - Sticks and Stones
I love all the little details of research and focusing in on specific areas and all of the minor little things that make up regular life.

ameliapeabody - Every Old Ending
I love Nita's reaction to being offered the place. :)

araine - Star Wars
I have to laugh so many times with this one. I remember enough of AWH to get it and I love the Dairine/Roshaun interaction! So in-character and hilarious. And Carmela and teasing Kit! *g*

Asphalt Angel - A Family Meal
I love the introduction with the family, Dairine's reactions to them, the fact that Betty spotted the discord between Carl and his family when Harry didn't . . .

astraevirgo - And Baby
This one's so cute--Nita and Kit's individual reactions to her being pregnant . . .

avendya - Lost
I like this one because it's Dairine, and she's not that much of a feelings person but she FEELS so much in this fic . . .

coffeebased - Balance
It's a little depressing, but the ending is lovely in that painful you-don't-want-to-let-the-hope-go-but-you-have-to-move-on sort of way.

darkdanc3r - Fear Aside for Courage
The title is just perfect, and the emotions, the little encounters, and the ending . . . takes my breath away. :)

dracoprncs1310 - Untitled
I'm not a Star Wars fan, but I get the humor in this ficlet, and it cracks me up. *g*

euphrates - Empty Words and Feeble Gestures
I think this fic captures the emotions amazingly well, makes you want to blink back tears as you read. And the ending . . . oh man . . . *sniffs*

fallenxembers17 - Catch a Burning Star as the Night Sky Smiles
A little drabble that makes me want to smile with joy too. :)

gfish - Seniors
*sniffs* You don't always think about what it's like from the Seniors' point of view, seeing young wizards like Nita and Kit go on Ordeals . . .

Gray Shadows - 1310 to Tarvehk
I like the details of this, Kit and Nita working together . . .

Jewels - Wintergreen
I always enjoy Nita-centric fics, and this one is really interesting about the almost-forgetting wizardry bit . . .

Kara - More Things in Heaven and Earth
I typically avoid the religious-based YW fic but this one handles it fairly well. The best part I think, however, must be the very last para. :D

Kara aka magelette - Who Needs a Fedora?
This one plain cracks me up, because it's *Carmela* of course, and Dairine! And intergalactic chocolate smuggling . . . *snicker*

katarik - Dawned above despair
A little darker story in the same band!AU verse as labellementeuse's The One Where They're All In A Rock Band--you'll need to read that one first to get it. I like the little lines here and there, and just all those little touches that make it come to life . . .

labellementeuse - Five Ways Nita Callahan Nearly Used Her Powers To Speed Up Entropy
I love the humor (Pluto! you are SO a planet) and then it gets all dark and WHAM and owww and good at the very end . . . man . . .

labellementeuse - Local Excursions
I love the convos, the little detail stuff that I could never get right if I tried but makes it awesome to read . . . delightful!

labellementeuse - Someplace That's Green
I like that we get to see some of Annie's life, one of those often overlooked chracters . . .

labellementeuse - The One Where They're All In A Rock Band
I don't think I'd *heard* of band AUs before this. (Yes, I'm a bit . . . sheltered, maybe you'd call it.) But I loved the way it worked, and included all those details. And *Myriad*! Perfect. Makes me wish I could go download one of their CDs and try it out. *g*

LillyRose - Just Another Day
This fic's just chock full of interesting stuff--the alien roommates, the sci-fi geek who knows about wizards but isn't one (and doesn't want to be) yet has a crush on an alien, the tech upgrades that came too soon . . .

Lyras - All the Worlds
I like the Nita/Kit over the years, the connection, oh, there aren't words for this. :)

marlex - Bar Talk
The sadness in Nita, the hopeless fight yet still trying to go on . . . *sniff*

marlex - Confessions on a Ferris Wheel
Beginning Kit/Nita always makes me grin. :D

marlex - New Tactics
The whole setup of this, with the logical consequences due to what bystanders see . . . pretty amazing to think all that up!

Nina Cassian - Ordeal, rec'd by rare_fandom
(Note: this is not really a YW fic but was rec'd to Young Wizards fans as a poem that suited the fandom particularly well.) I love poetry like this, where it makes one really FEEL.

odette_river - I Move The Stars For No One
#1 is very Dairine, but it's #4 which is my favorite, because it completely captures Dairine's approach toward life.

odette_river - when the world isn't right
An AU that makes me want to cry and hug Dairine and reread it over and over, because I just love how she is compared to Nita in each of those situations, how the loss of Nita affects the way she approaches things . . .

polka-dotted-penguins - Enlightment
The fic isn't entirely polished, but the ending of it is hilarious. Very much in character. *g*

psycheorigami - Retrograde
I'd link to this one, except it's not anywhere I can find anymore. It was an amazing ficlet (the author said there'd be more, but as far as I saw it 'twas only one chapter), each para done in backwards order ending in a dash, and started out with Nita and Kit and Ronan being the only survivors of some major fight, and Nita and Kit holding each other after seeing all that they had . . . it ended with Tom and Carl going on vacation, and this innocuous line that tugs at you--heartbreaking, intense, and well-written. I wish I could find it to link for all of you, but I'll settle for describing it for now.

rare_fandom - Four Non-Partisan Wizardry Truths About Elections
I love the whole tone of this fic, the spot-on characterizations of Dairine and the others, the fact the author kept it very even-toned (in politics these days people usually go so far to one side as to disparage anyone who doesn't see things the way they do). And the last line makes me almost want to cry--in a good way.

rare_fandom - Occupational Hazards
The brownies made me laugh. And the fact that they didn't warn Nita and Kit about food!

rare_fandom - On The Job Training
Wow, just wow. I like the Rebecca one the best, but Mitchell's a close second. Oww but good.

Reading Redhead - After the Moon
It's almost Nita/Kit and I love the emotions in it . . .

Rhap-chan - Mid-Life
This doesn't have anything particularly big stand out to me as amazing--it's just an overall great fic to read. (And I love the Kit/Nita.)

Rhap-chan - So You Want To Be
Oh, this is delicious. Dairine growing older, librarian (yay books!), meeting the Lone One in the guise of the boy she's looked for for years . . . It's the kind of fic I like to savor in my mouth afterwards.

Rhap-chan - The Sun
The Dairine/Roshaun is nice, but my fav parts have to be Nita and Madeleine--any daughter of Carmela would have to be interesting . . . *g*

seldear - Its Own Reward
Mm, I loved the ordinariness of this, the whole theme . . . :)

Senri - No White Flags Here
Was interesting to look at Nita through Joanne's eyes. I've always wondered about Joanne, what she was like beyond the bully we saw . . .

Shima and Tempis - Normalcy
The subtle Nita/Kit, the little details, the promising in the Speech . . . it's lovely.

sillyangelfaery - ice breaker
The mental convo between Nita and Kit cracks me up.

sillyangelfaery - Instinct
I find myself wanting to re-read this, if for no other reason than to blink my eyes and sniff and enjoy the little bit of Nita/Kit that's so sweet and angsty at the same time because you're thinking about how Dairine feels and wow . . . I really love this fic.

sillyangelfaery - untitled
I love the whole teacher part, because I am one, sort of. (I just don't work in a classroom these days, but in a tutoring center.) Very nicely done.

soleta - These So-Called Vacations (Will Soon Be My Death)
*snickers* Oh, Carmela. I think I would want to kill her too, if she were my sister. Poor Kit and Ronan! *g*

TechnoPoet - Weapon of Choice
I'm not a Star Wars fan, but I did see all six films and this fic cracks me up because Dairine is SO into it--and she reacts exactly as I would imagine . . . *g*

TeenTypist - A Rescue of Sorts
Unusual for this fandom, this is actually a longer fic, an interesting portrayal of Dairine/Roshaun.

The Duchessina - Five Things That Never Happened to Kit Rodriguez
I love this type of fic (wrote one myself for another fandom); it was really interesting seeing the different scenarios.

travelwright - Message Received At
I like this one because it's not overt Nita/Ronan (no more flirting than was canon, really) and it's an interesting point, that Nita DOES know how he feels.

trialia - Hardly Make A Sound
This one is so owww, makes you want to hug Nita.

wintercreek - Like a Real Live Koan, With Jogging
I LOVE the whole idea of the Central Library and the way it works. Fascinating! :D

I'm excited to see so many of my fics on here, especially considering the fics they're listed among.

Although I feel I should point out that I didn't write the poem. It's written by Nina Cassian, I merely reced it because it felt like it could have been written for this fandom.

Again, thank you so much for recing my fics!

Lol, I missed that somehow--I'll tweak the rec so it's fixed.

You're welcome! I wanted to make sure whoever gets me for Yuletide gets an idea of the fics I love. *g* I didn't get around to posting this list anywhere but my own LJ, though--what brought you across it? *is curious* :)

LJ has this ping bot thing that sends me notices when someone links to a post I made. So when you linked to my fics it let me know.

Oh right! I forgot about that. Probably because I don't write anything interesting enough for anyone else to link to. *g*

Anyway, enjoy all the recs, and I suppose I ought to link the post at [livejournal.com profile] myriadwords so everyone can see. *heads over to do so*

You're welcome! I didn't have time to comment on each fic as I did it, so I'm glad you got to see it here. It really was a fun fic to read! I admire your creativity. :D

This is perfect - I'm up to recommend YW for Small Fandoms Month at [livejournal.com profile] crack_van. I'll definitely be checking these out!

Awwwwww! *blushes and grins*

I'm so glad to hear someone likes that story; it got so little feedback. That, and it means a lot to me. I struggle to re-read Dilemma because my own mother died of cancer when I was still a teenager, just like Nita. That may even have been where that little thing came from.

So... thank you for recommending it!

Thank YOU for coming up with it, despite the pain of your experience. It was very well written and intense, two things I think are hard to accomplish. :)

Adding a rec, if I may - personal favorite YW piece.

I would've rec'd that one because it was so well written except it makes me shiver too much. *g* (Methinks you handle dark endings better than I do.)

Thanks for writing them! I know it's hard work and I don't think I could ever write in this fandom; it's so complex and hard to get right. But I do love reading good YW fic. :)
