Alphas recs - by ship/author
Nov. 23rd, 2021 06:36 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
This post is my complete list of Alphas recs organized by ship (and then author). (For Alphas recs organized by time in canon & wordcount instead, go here.) I will endeavor to keep it updated as new fics are posted. (Since such are few and far between, it should not be difficult.)
I have included my own fics in this post. Some I have marked as favorites (because I do re-read them from time to time!), and others I have not. None of them are marked as exceptionally well-written because I couldn't evaluate my own work with clarity that way, even when I particularly like the way I wrote something.
Guide to icons used:
Fics I tagged as favorites:
Fics I thought were exceptionally well-written:
WIPs:
(Icons come from the Icon pack by Icons8.)
As always with my db-generated lists, ratings are all converted to a single system for convenience:
Fanfiction.net - G through R
AO3 - PG through X (though the occasional child-friendly fic I mark G)
anything without a rating (AO3 or other site) - Unrated
I have tried not to spoil readers too much.
Most of the fics in this list are given with no information beyond author, title, rating, word count, major ships, and the summary the author gave it.
However, my database does store information on themes, which cover everything from grammatical things like tense & person (I mark for present tense, first person, second person, and direct address), to format (poetry, songfic, 5+1, etc.), trope (fake couple, stranded together, etc.), general feel (angst, fluff, etc.), and warnings (major character death, non-con, violence/wounds, etc.).
If you would like to see the themes for the recs from any of the lists below, please comment and let me know so I can reply with that information. It is very simple to generate the recs for a large list of fics in such a way that all of the themes are listed.
If you would rather just have a list with certain themes excluded, please also comment to let me know which one(s). You can find the full list of themes here, titled Fanfic Themes.
The fics below are all organized by major ship(s). If there are any minor/background ships you want to avoid, please leave a comment and ask for a list to be made for you. Note that ships may refer to one-sided or unrequited ones as well as to requited/mutual.

Lee Rosen & Rachel Pirzad
FandomDancer - His Voice, 1426 words, PG

Nina Theroux & Rachel Pirzad

prompt: Nina - Alphas ( What I've Been Looking For: High School Musical soundtrack )

She doesn't need to believe in anything else other than in being there for the people who matters to her. And Rachel matters.

October 22, the way it could have happened.

During one of her darkest moments, Nina finds help coming from the most unlikely of sources. Set during and following the final deleted scene from Alphaville, and taking the other Alphaville deleted scenes as canon.

Glimpses of the team throughout one day of the apocalypse.

An attack on one of her coworkers forces Nina to confront the reality of the effects her pushing has had on the people she cares about.

The end of the world draws together even the most independent people.

The world might have ended, but they still had to go on.

It's not just that there's an elephant in the room. It's that Rachel and Nina are handcuffed in the back of a cattle trailer in the middle of nowhere--and they probably need to talk about the elephant in the room.
Nina Theroux/Rachel Pirzad
anonymous_sibyl - (Un)Certainty, 100 words, PG
Rachel catalogues and categorizes.
DCeMBers - I Love You, Good Night, 1206 words, PG-13
Unexpected circumstances bring two Alphas closer together. Way closer. Set right after 1x05 Never Let Me Go.

Nina has Rachel over for dinner and drinks, but the night doesn’t end exactly as they expected.

How exactly did Nina know that Rachel could get off from a kiss?

What if, instead of bringing Gary as her pretend-boyfriend to her sister's engagement party, Rachel brought Nina as her pretend-girlfriend? Anything's better than showing up alone, she figures; and maybe if her family were shocked enough, they'd at least leave her alone for a while. But what if the pretending started to feel like more than a game...?

The aftermath of Nina pushing Rachel to kiss her opens up a can of worms that neither woman was prepared to deal with.

Nina and Cameron share a 'friendly' work conversation that Nina wrongly assumes goes unheard. Nina/Rachel

Wine, Scotch and a late night, long over-due conversation helps Nina and Rachel come to terms with what happened and the status of their relationship. Spoilers for When Push Comes to Shove and virtually the whole 2nd season just to be safe. Also rated it T for some language. A/N : Sorry. Tried to edit on this site but the changes weren't taking so I'm having to repost.

Desperation has Rachel taking Nina (not Gary) to her sister's engagement party, or, is it something else?

pleasanthell - When Push Comes to Shove, 7522 words, PG-13
It killed her. Every single look drove a spike through Nina’s heart. It’s so hard to stay when she feels that kind of pain every single day. She knows she went too far and she is more sorry than she’s ever been. It’s also so hard to stay, marinating in Rachel’s cold looks when she’s so used to running away. Or pushing her problems away. She swallowed and closed her eyes. The events that took place after Nina pushed Rachel.

How does Gary deal with the aftermath of Anna's death?
agoodtuckering - A White Blank Page and A Swelling Rage, 1825 words, PG-13
I definitely needed something for my feels after The Devil Will Drag You Under. This takes place after the last scene with Stanton, afer he pulls the 'trigger.' It's about how Stanton feels about life, about the mistakes he's made, and about Dani.
Anonymous - Soliloquy, 547 words, PG
There's something you should know about me—something Don Wilson, good man though he was, didn't seem to understand.

The lights are on, but no one is home. That's what the medical professionals try to tell Gary about his sister, but he knows they're wrong. The lights are on, someone is home, but she just doesn't answer the door, and rarely ever peeps out the window.

A quick little one-shot from Agent Sullivan's POV inspired by the end of Catch and Release. "It didn't matter that she didn't know everything about them. She wasn't paid to be a fountain of knowledge; she was paid to protect them..."

For Gary Bell, it's all yes/no, black/white, right/wrong...but something is changing. A snapshot of a morning in Gary's life.
Camaro-Enthusiast - Supergirl, 2844 words, PG-13
Rachel used to wish she was normal. That's all her parents ever wanted. Now, all she wants is to be able to talk to her parents again. Instead, she's sitting on the roof with Gary, of all people. She finds out, that may not be so bad after all. One-shot.

Post 2x09 – The Devil Will Drag You Under. Character pieces. Chapter One – Bill.
FreakShowWalking - Clip My Wings And Then Ask Me To Fly, 937 words, PG-13
Rachel-centric one-shot. Set an undetermined amount of time after the season one finale, "Original Sin", with the team imprisoned in Binghamton's Building 7.

In which Rachael doesn't eat with her cousin, encounters a cat lady, sees color, tastes touch and generally has a day. Also, home is where, when they are angry with you, and your friend has a spare bedroom, that just might be home too.

Someone from Gary's long-forgotten past shows up at the office. Bill doesn't like him, and for good reason. No slash.

A missing scene from the recent episode "When Push Comes to Shove", because I enjoyed the episode so much I wanted to spend some more time in it. This takes place immediately after Cameron saves Nina on the rooftop and deals with the repercussions of what has happened.

She can feel herself fading, but all she can focus on is the fact that they ran towards her, not away. Spoilers up to The Devil Will Drag You Under. Dani-centric.
Gotham Siren - Mother Knows Best, 1075 words, PG
Extended ending to "Alphaville": Skylar Adams knew that she wasn't the best mother out there. She had a lot of learning to do still, but it didn't mean that she didn't know what was best for her daughter. Skylar centric.

Six Gary-centric vignettes from varying points of view.

Gary Bell was getting along fine. His job, his gift, his family. One day someone close to him is taken, and the team worries for his safety, and his mental state.

About thirteen Christmas episodes of various TV shows later, Kat makes herself a cup of cocoa in the kitchen and declares, "We should have an office Secret Santa exchange. You know, get into the spirit of the season." FEATURING: last-minute gift shopping, an accidental Grinch, and the realest science the SyFy channel has to offer.

Six months after "Catch and Release," Skylar Adams comes back into the Alphas' lives. Having risked life, limb, and more to get an unknown Alpha out of her abusive foster care home, Skylar needs help to keep the girl alive and safe. Can the team help?
misura - (Things We Won) After the Fire, 1304 words, PG
"You're not my partner," Gary said, barely two seconds after they'd gotten into the elevator, and Cameron's newly boosted ability kicked in to show him the most likely continuation of this conversation, in full-colour sound and vision. "Bill's my partner." (post-S2 AU)

MurderousPen - Giving Back, 625 words, PG
Gary pays a visit to a special grave. My first Alphas fanfic - it'd be nice to see reviews!

Skylar's alpha ability makes her a tempting target. She's been eluding capture for years, determined not to be anyone's latest acquisition. This complicates the "catch and release" operation Nina and Rosen have planned.
